Bring your recipes from another app

Drop an export from Paprika, Mela and other recipe apps into Add recipe to bring your whole library in.

Thyme Kept can read the export files of these apps: Paprika, Mela, Crouton, Mealie, Tandoor, Plan to Eat, Recipe Keeper, Copy Me That, Nextcloud Cookbook, Pestle and Umami. Recipe files in other apps’ .json or .html formats often work too.

  1. Export from your app. Open Add recipe, choose the From an app tab and open How to export for your app. It lists the steps. In Paprika, for example, you select all recipes, choose File, then Export, and keep the Paprika Recipe Format.
  2. Drop the file. Drop it on Drop your export here. You can drop several files or a folder. Thyme Kept works out which app it came from.
  3. Check the count. Thyme Kept says how many recipes it found, for example “Found N recipes from Paprika.”
  4. Choose Import. Keep the page open until it finishes. When it is done, choose Go to your library.

Photos, notes and categories come across too.

Running it twice is safe

Recipes already in your library are skipped, so you can import the same file again. Any recipe that could not be read is listed afterwards.

There is no Undo for a whole library

An import from another app has no Undo. If you imported by mistake, delete the recipes from your library with Delete recipe permanently in a recipe’s menu.

Apps that cannot export

AnyList, Samsung Food, NYT Cooking and BigOven cannot export a collection. Bring those recipes in one at a time with their link. See Add a recipe from a link.
