Build and use a shopping list

Add items by hand or from recipes, check them off in the shop, and copy the list to send it on.

Choose Shopping in the sidebar.

Put things on the list

  • By hand. Type in Add an item, then choose Add.
  • From recipes. Open List options, choose Add from recipes, find a recipe and review its ingredients.
  • From your plan. Choose Build shopping list on the plan. See Plan your week.

Items sit under aisle headings.

In the shop

Check an item off as you buy it. Bought items move into a Bought group. Items you set aside go to Not buying this trip. When everything is bought or set aside, Thyme Kept says so.

To change several items at once, choose Select items in List options: you can Mark bought, Buy later or Delete selected.

Finish the trip

When you have bought something, choose Finish trip. Pick Update pantry with what you bought or Finish without updating pantry. See Your pantry.

Send the list on

Choose Copy list, or Share or copy where your device has a share sheet. Pick Plain list (what is left to buy, with amounts, in aisle order) or Retailer search list (just the names, separated by commas, to paste into a store’s search). The copy is a snapshot: it will not change when your list does.

More than one list

The list picker shows List with its name. Open it to start a New shopping list, rename one, or see Archived lists. Nothing is deleted when a list is archived, and you can restore it.

If you lose your connection in the shop, you can still tick items off: see Using Thyme Kept without a connection.
